The National Day of Recognition for our Prisoners of War and Missing in Action is observed annually on the third Friday of September, a day set aside to pause, reflect, and remember those Americans held in wartime captivity and those still unaccounted for from all conflicts. As the proclamation from Governor Nathan Deal attests, there are many Georgians among the ranks of those who have not yet returned home to us.
Below are some events happening around Georgia to honor Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action. If you know of POW/MIA events in your area, please list them in the comments below the Georgia Department of Veterans Service Facebook post.
