State Health Benefit Plan’s 2013 Wellness Plan

State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP)We Have Wellness on Our Minds. Do You?

Georgia’s Department of Community Health administers the State Health Benefit Plan for state employees, teachers, school system employees, certain contract groups, retirees and covered dependents. With 642,179 lives covered as of January 1, 2013, the SHBP includes a variety of Standard and Wellness Plan Options for enrollees.

SHBP’s 2013 Wellness Plan – introduced in 2012 with various Wellness Plan Options and now with more than 252,000 enrollees – is one of the largest in the nation. For 2013, SHBP Wellness Plan Option members pay lower premiums and enjoy richer plan benefits in return for becoming engaged in their health and well-being.  As members become healthier, SHBP becomes healthier, too, incurring lower health care costs.  As a primarily self-funded plan, that’s a win-win for everyone.

Healthy Actions, Healthy Rewards as Deadline Nears

SHBP members in Standard or Wellness Plan Options who choose to become engaged in their health and well-being can also earn healthy rewards – if they act now.

All 2013 Wellness Plan enrollees must take at least two health actions to complete their 2013 Wellness Requirements.  This includes:

  1. Completing an online health assessment through their health plan vendor (Cigna or UnitedHealthcare), and
  2. Completing an online health education module at SHBP’s new Wellness Learning Center, available to all SHBP members.

Standard Plan Option members and certain Wellness Plan Option members must also complete a Biometric Screening through their physician to measure the member’s body mass index, blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol levels.  The physician must fax the results by the deadline for the member to receive the incentives.

As a good-health incentive to all SHBP Standard and Wellness Plan Option Members in 2013, completing the above health actions will earn each eligible member a 2014 wellness incentive fund contribution of $240.  Spouses, if covered, can earn the incentive as well. To ensure eligibility for all wellness-related incentives in 2014, the 2013 Wellness Requirements including the 2014 Incentive Fund Contribution Requirements must be completed by May 31, 2013, 4:30 p.m. ET.
