State employees give $2.7 million to support charities

On September 23 Governor Sonny Perdue, the Honorary Campaign Chair of the 2008-09 State Charitable Contributions, recognized 22 top contributing state agencies, colleges and universities by presenting Governor’s Cup, Governor’s Awards, and Commissioner’s Awards. The 2008-09 campaign raised over $2.7 million to support charitable organizations serving Georgians and individuals in need overseas. The charitable organizations participating in the SCCP provide a wide range of health and human services. The program allows state and university system employees to contribute to the charities of their choice via payroll deduction.
