Fall is here and there is plenty to do around the state!  Let’s take a look:

Oct. 8 - 12  Georgia's Colonial Georgia Coast Birding Festival.  Activities expand the Georgia coast. There will be seminars, boat trips, field trips, and more fun for everyone.

 

Oct. 24.  Turtleween!  Georgia Sea Turtle Center staff and volunteers invite all turtle enthusiasts to join in some non-scary Turtleween fun! Come dressed in your Halloween costume, and receive $1 off admission to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center! There will be arts and crafts, fun turtle-ish programs, and of course, you can visit our sea turtle patients.

 

Oct. 24.  WAY Radio Beach Concert.  Top Christian artist perform on the beachdeck. 

 

Oct.  28 – 30. Georgia Florida Golf Classic.  Fans play against rival fans in this fun filled event.

Live entertainment featuring headliner and oompah Bands, Wachovia KinderVillage, German food, games, fun and regional arts & crafts

Oct. 8.   2nd Annual Rivers Rock! presents Blackwater*Bluegrass Ogeechee-Canoochee and Satilla Riverkeeper host the 2nd Annual Rivers Rock! presents Blackwater•Bluegrass. Enjoy live music.

Oct. 8 – 10.  Tybee Island Pirate Fest Tybee Island, Ga. - The 5th Annual Tybee Island Pirate Fest, one of Tybee’s most wildly popular events.
Location: South Beach, Tybee Island.

 

 

 

Oct. 30 – 31.  Hilton Head Island Concours d' Elegance & Motoring Festival.  The two-day vintage track event, managed by HSR, Historic Sportscar Racing, Ltd., will feature vintage races as well as touring laps in your own car around the track ($20) and the ever-popular hot lap rides ($50) and autocross courses ($10) which get you in the latest sports car makes and models as a passenger moving at racing speeds.

Location: The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa.

Appalachian Jam

Saturdays 2 PM - 6 PM until Oct 31, 2009

Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site - Dahlonega, GA 

Listen to the sounds and songs of yesteryear. North Georgia's mountain music singers and pickers will appear on the grounds of the historic Dahlonega Gold Museum every Saturday. Enjoy acoustic and old-time strings as the sounds of yesterday fill the air. 706-864-3513.

Lost Person Prevention

Learn simple techniques for not getting lost and keeping track of your family when venturing into the great outdoors of Georgia. Search and Rescue Dog Team will be joining the class. Register in advance. $5 parking. 770-389-7801.

 

Basic Fly Tying Clinic

2nd Saturday of Month 1 PM - 3 PM from Sep 12, 2009 until Dec 12, 2009

Panola Mountain State Park- Stockbridge, GA 

Learn the art of fly tying as instructors introduce you to tools, techniques and tricks of the trade to create realistic flies. Participants will make one fly and possibly more if time permits. Ages 10 and older. Register in advance. $25 plus $5 parking. 770-389-7801.

 

Tree Top Excursions:  Introduction Climb

1st Saturday of Month, 1 PM – 4 PM until Dec. 5

Panola Mountain State Park – Stockbridge, GA

This is an introductory climb to Canopy-Adventure-Research-Educational Technical Tree Climbing.  Participants will use rope and harness for this moderately strenuous activity.  770-389-7801.

 

The Battle of Allatoona Pass

Oct. 3 – 4, 10 AM – 4 PM

Red Top Mountain State Park and Lodge – Cartersville, GA

Walk the trails, visit the Star Fort earthworks, and follow the old Tennessee Road just as the soldiers did in 1864.  Explore daily life in the tent city, and see rifle and cannon demonstrations.  770-975-4226.

New Manchester History Hike

Visiting Artist Series at Unicoi

New Manchester History Hike

Saturdays 10 AM - 12 PM 

Sweetwater Creek State Park- Lithia Springs, GA 

This mile-long hike (easy to moderate) will lead us to the five story ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester textile mill and focus on the history of the Sweetwater Creek Valley. This Historian or Ranger-led hike will include going inside the impressive mill ruins and seeing the lovely whitewater rapids (both providing great photo opportunities). $1-$2 plus $5 parking. 770-732-5871.

Lasershow Schedule

The Lasershow is presented every scheduled night regardless of rain. However, if lightning is present at show time, officials may cancel the show for the safety of those in attendance.

 

The show lasts approximately 40 minutes.

Come out and enjoy some cooler weather at Atlanta's favorite place to celebrate the fall season. Now in it's 7th year, Stone Mountain Park's annual Pumpkin Festival has become a family favorite with kids and parents alike.

37th Annual Highland Games
Dates: October 17-18
For 37 years, the picturesque grounds of the Stone Mountain Park meadow, a short drive northeast of Atlanta, Georgia, have resounded with the sounds of bagpipes, fiddles and harps during the third weekend in October.  This year thousands of Scots (even those that wish to be 'Scot for the Day') from around the world will don their family tartans and gather to greet old friends and make new ones too. Come and enjoy the Highland Athletic events, Highland Dancing, Piping and Drumming, Scottish Harping.
