Volunteer, Donate, Participate in your favorite charity
If the economic downturn has caused you to cut back on contributing to your favorite charity, there are still ways to give without causing any undue financial stress. Most charities are in need of volunteers. You may even donate that old computer or cell phone you no longer use, or participate in a fundraiser walk. Listed below are organizations who can benefit from your contributions.

The world of Lekotek is one filled with laughter and joy coupled with hard work and personal challenges. Children with disabilities face challenges interacting with family members and participating in school and community activities. That's why we're here. Lekotek facilitates successful inclusion in all aspects of life.
Lekotek helps families by:
• Encouraging development through exploration and discovery
• Providing failure-free learning
• Teaching new and creative ways to make play successful and interactive for children with special needs
• Loaning adapted and traditional toys and computer software for families to use at home
• Providing individualized support and resources to build on existing family strengths

Our dedicated and talented staff, combined with specially adapted teaching tools, forms a powerful team to help children with disabilities accomplish skills often thought unattainable. Staff members have backgrounds in therapeutic fields, special education, and child development.

Lutheran Services of Georgia
Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG) resettles hundreds of refugees each year, assisting them to make a smooth transition to life in the United States, to achieve economic self-sufficiency, and to become socially integrated into their new communities. We take responsibility for gathering resources, finding housing and employment, and providing general cultural orientation to the refugees that we resettle.
One of the first steps in the resettlement process here is to furnish apartments for newly arriving refugees in accordance with US Department of State requirements. LSG gratefully accepts donations of new and gently-used household items, and a “wish list” of items needed is available at http://lsga.org/Programs/Refugee/wishlist.htm. We offer pick-up service by appointment within the metro Atlanta area for larger household items. For more information, call JD McCrary, Program Manager for Refugee Resettlement, at 678-686-9643 or jmccrary@lsga.org.
Open Hands
Our biggest need at the moment is donations of new microwaves for our clients to use to reheat their meals. The contact person for such donations is Aisha Dubose, 404-419-1116, adubose@projectopenhand.org. Our website is www.projectopenhand.org .
The donation of microwaves or funds to purchase microwave ovens to be provided to clients in need of them will allow these clients to enjoy their freshly prepared, nutritious meals as they were designed to be eaten - hot!
