New Work Ready Center Opens Doors for State Agencies

Work Ready

Partnership Enables Stateto Attract and Retain Best-in-Class Workforce

ATLANTA, Ga. – The State Personnel Administration (SPA), in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development (GOWD), has opened a new Work Ready Center in the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building in Atlanta. The Work Ready Center is designed to help state agencies attract and retain the best workforce to meet their customers’ needs.

The new Work Ready Center will provide no-cost Work Ready assessments to current and potential state employees and certified Work Ready job profilers will be available to profile the required job tasks and skill levels needed for success to help agencies more reliably match the right person to the right job.

The Center was launched with an open house event on May 5, hosted by SPA’s Workforce Services Division.

“The state of Georgia is committed to hiring and retaining the best possible workforce talent,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “This new Work Ready Center enables state agencies to transform the way they hire and train their employees, which will effectively generate the right talent for the right jobs.”

Agencies implementing Georgia Work Ready make an investment of their employees’ time to develop strong job profiles. This investment can reap great rewards for years to come including:

  • Improved hiring procedures
  • Reduced turnover
  • Reduced training costs
  • Increased productivity
  • Higher employee morale

“Economic development is at the heart of Georgia’s growth. Utilizing the Work Ready Center ensures the state’s workforce is best in class in serving its costumers,” said Steve Stevenson, commissioner, State Personnel Administration.

The Georgia Forestry Commission, Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget and Georgia State Patrol are currently using Work Ready and seeing positive results in the quality of their new hires.

Work Ready is powered by the ACT WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate and includes a skills assessment, measuring applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information, certification and skills gap training for job seekers and a job profiling system for state agency employers.
