Employees' Retirement Plan
The Employees Retirement System (ERS) began administering retirement benefits for State of Georgia employees on Jan. 1, 1950, as provided by laws enacted through the Georgia General Assembly.
Laws governing ERS provide service retirements, death and disability benefits, and permits a refund of contributions and interest to members who leave State employment.
Your employee contributions and your benefits after retirement are based on your plan membership. If you were hired prior to July 1, 1982 and have never withdrawn your contributions, you are an Old Plan member. If you were hired on or after July 1, 1982, but before January 1, 2009 you are a New Plan member. If you were hired on or after January 1, 2009, you are a member of the Georgia State Employees’ Pension and Savings Plan (GSEPS).
