Governor Perdue,

With all the discounts that are offered state employees, why do we not receive a discount for lodging, etc. at state parks (i.e. Red Top Mountain)?

The Team Georgia Connection offers a wide variety of discounts to state employees, ranging from electronics to entertainment to sporting events.

While no lodging discounts are currently offered, state employees and retirees can take advantage of a discount program for Georgia State Park’s eight golf courses located throughout the state.  Click Here for more details.

What is the state policy for using water to keep state vehicles clean?

As a large consumer of water, the state government will continue to lead by example in promoting water conservation practices.

In 2008, I issued an executive order challenging state agencies to reduce water usage by five percent by the year 2010 and by two percent annually until the year 2020.  This includes all state entities and encompasses the state’s fleet of vehicles as well.

By conserving water together, we can lower the costs associated with water usage and ensure that the generations after us will inherit an ample supply of clean water.

The Executive Order can be accessed by clicking here.

Why is it mandatory for state employees to undergo background checks and credit checks in order to use a state credit card?

Georgia is the steward of taxpayers’ money, so it is important that we take any steps necessary to ensure their money is spent responsibly.   Background and credit checks are one way to do this.  Even if you don’t use a state purchasing card, or “P-Card,” O.C.G.A. §50-5-83(b)(12) requires criminal background checks and credit checks on all employees hired for positions that are eligible for P-Cards.

The entire statewide P-Card policy, effective September 5, 2008, can be found by clicking here.
