Calvin Rhodes receives the 2018 CIO of the Year ORBIE® Award

Calvin Rhodes, Chief Information Officer for the state of Georgia and Executive Director of the Georgia Technology Authority, is the winner of the 2018 Georgia CIO of the Year ORBIE Award for Nonprofit/Public Sector in the nonprofit, government and education organizations category.

CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards is the premier technology executive recognition program in the United States. This annual honor, presented by the Georgia CIO Leadership Association (GeorgiaCIO), recognizes chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership in eight key categories – Lifetime, Super Global, Global, Enterprise, Corporate – Large, Corporate, Nonprofit/Public Sector and Healthcare.

Mr. Rhodes was among 35 finalists and eight award recipients chosen through an independent peer review process led by prior ORBIE winners. Selection is based on scope of responsibilities, leadership effectiveness, business value created by innovation, and engagement in industry and community endeavors. The ORBIE awards were presented on October 26 at the 20th Annual Georgia CIO of the Year® Awards at the Cobb Galleria.

As state CIO, Mr. Rhodes chairs Georgia’s statewide cybersecurity board and oversees the construction and programming of the Hull McKnight Georgia Cyber Center for Innovation and Training. He is a member of the Georgia CIO Leadership Association and serves on various committees throughout the state.

Mr. Rhodes was appointed to his position in January 2011 by Governor Nathan Deal to lead the state’s public/private partnership IT transformation effort. Although a massive undertaking, he was successful in leading the completion of a multi-year, $1 billion initiative to consolidate and modernize Georgia’s IT enterprise. The state now has strengthened security, modernized infrastructure and networks, improved reliability, increased transparency, and a solid foundation in place for agencies to easily benefit from changes in the IT marketplace and improve services state government provides to the citizens of Georgia.

Please join Team Georgia in congratulating Calvin Rhodes on this well-deserved honor!
