Seeing a need for positive male role models in his community, David Butler, from the Division of Family and Children Services, began volunteering as a basketball coach two years ago. “I have two sons, and I wanted to give to them as well as other boys the opportunity to be inspired and mentored through an extracurricular activity,” said David.
“I enjoy watching young men work together and push themselves to be better players and citizens.” When asked what he would say to inspire others to volunteer with the youth in their communities, David had this to say, “It’s better to be involved with giving back to those youth who are without, than to simply sit back and criticize those who are doing their best to work with the youth in their communities. There is real joy in giving back to the next generation.”
