
Robert Rivers retires after serving for 22 years as a clerk for the Georgia House of Representatives.
Mr. Robert E. “Robby” Rivers, Jr. has long been recognized by the citizens of Georgia for the vital role he has played in government and for his deep personal commitment to others.
Mr. Rivers was born on May 28, 1951, in Atlanta. He graduated from Bremen High School in 1969, and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with honors from the University of Georgia in 1973 and a Juris Doctor degree from the Emory University School of Law in 1977.
After graduation, he worked in private practice of law in Carrollton from 1977 to 1986. He then entered public service as assistant district attorney for the Coweta Judicial Circuit from 1984 to 1986, as a legal assistant for the Speaker’s Office of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1986 to 1991, as acting clerk of the Georgia House of Representatives in 1991, and has been the Clerk of the Georgia House of Representatives since 1992. Mr. Rivers has diligently devoted innumerable hours of his time and talents toward the betterment of the state as evidenced by his 28 years of dedicated and superlative service with the Georgia House of Representatives; 22 years of which he has provided effective, efficient, and honorable service as Clerk under four Speakers of the House.
Mr. Rivers has an impeccable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness. On July 24, 2013, colleagues, friends, family, and representatives and senators filled the third floor of the Capitol to wish him much health and happiness as he enters retirement at the end of this month.
