Knowing that weather in Georgia is often unpredictable, especially during hurricane season, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security (GEMA) is providing citizens with a guide to create a homemade ready kit in case sever weather strikes unexpectedly.
The guide provides practical items like water, canned food and flashlights, as well as a few items often forgotten until it’s too late like medicine, local maps and pet food.
Recommended Items you’ll find:
- Water. One gallon per person per day, for at least 3 days, for drinking and sanitation
- Food. At least a 3-day supply of non-perishable food
- Can opener. For food, if kit contains canned food
- Radio. Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert, and extra batteries for both
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Whistle. To signal for help
