Star Wars Day Astronomy
Friday, May 4, 2018 8 PM to 10 PM
Fort McAllister State Park – Richmond Hill, GA
Celebrate Star Wars Day in style by looking at the stars, with Star Wars characters. We will look at double stars, like the twin suns of Tatooine. You will be able to see Venus up close through our telescope as well as other celestial objects. Watch out, this event will be invaded by the Mandalorian Mercs! Women’s Wilderness Weekend
Friday, Saturday & Sunday 5 PM – 7 PM from May 4, 2018 until May 6, 2018
Providence Canyon Outdoor Recreation Area – Lumpkin, GA
Venturing into the wilderness for the first time and want to learn the ways of the wild? Or, looking to improve your wilderness knowledge? Join AmeriCorps rangers and like-minded women on a multi-day adventure (May 4-6) to hone your outdoor survival skills. This trip has many opportunities for demonstrations, discussion, practice and questions. $50 plus $5 parking. 229-838-4706.

Stick Horse Derby
Saturday, May 5, 2018 1 PM
F.D. Roosevelt State Park – Pine Mountain, GA
“Race” 40 yards on your stick horse. Make one or rent one of ours ahead of time. Geared towards adult and youth jockeys of all abilities. Speed, nor skill matters, it is the luck of the draw that lets you move forward on the racetrack. One rider per horse. Pre-registration encouraged. Meet at the baseball field on Hwy 354. $5 per rider; additional $5 per rental horse $5 parking. 706-663-4858.

Homeschool In The Park Day: Insects
Friday, May 11, 2018 10 AM to 11:30 AM
F.D. Roosevelt State Park – Pine Mountain, GA
Geared towards families who homeschool. Investigate insects in an indoor and outdoor lab. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the park on your own afterwards. Meet at the Shelter at the Large Group Camp near the Horse Stables. Dress for the out of doors. Cost $5 per child ages 4 & up. Pre-register and pre-pay. $5 parking. 706-663-4858.

Mother’s Day Activities

Fort Mountain State Park – Chatsworth, GA
From 2pm-4pm Stop by the Nature Nook and make a card and a gift for Mother’s Day. 4pm-5pm We will play the game show style game “Do You Know Your Mother”. $2-$5 plus $5 parking. 706-422-1932.

Mother’s Day Tea at the Cabin

Elijah Clark State Park – Lincolnton, GA
Treat your mother, grandmother or another important lady in your life this Mother’s Day to a 1700’s Tea Party. Moms of all ages will enjoy a hot cup of tea and cakes in our Revolutionary Period Cabin. Free for Mom $2 plus $5 parking. 706-359-3458.

Ultraviolet Night Hike
Friday, May 25, 2018 8 PM to 10 PM
Magnolia Springs State Park – Millen, GA
Ever wonder what it’s like to see in ultraviolet light? Come experience our wooded trails via backlights and learn all about night florescence with our Park Ranger! Bring good hiking shoes, drinking water, and a small flashlight. Meet at the entrance to Beaver Trail, next to the canoes at the lake. $5 plus $5 parking. 478-982-1660.

Memorial Day Commemoration

Fort McAllister State Park – Richmond Hill, GA
Join us for an old fashioned Memorial Day, and help us pay tribute to our fellow patriots who served our country throughout the years! Cannon & musket firings every hour!
