Matt Arthur appointed commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia

Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Matt Arthur as commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). With TCSG board approval, Arthur’s appointment was effective January 1.

Arthur previously served as the deputy commissioner of TCSG since January 2015. He also served as the director of education reform for the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget. During his career, Arthur has worked as a teacher, coach, director of career and technical education, assistant principal and secondary principal. He was also the superintendent of the Rabun County School District for 13 years. Arthur has held leadership roles with the Georgia School Superintendents Association and Georgia’s Education Reform Commission. He is a member of the Georgia Children’s Cabinet, the REACH Georgia Foundation Board of Directors and the Georgia Center for Early Language and Literacy Board. Arthur represents Georgia on the Southern Regional Education Board. He received the University of Georgia College of Education Lifetime Achievement Award and was recognized as a Post-Graduate Scholar by the National Football Foundation. Arthur is a graduate of the University of Georgia and played on the 1980 national championship football team. He and his wife, Margie, have two children and live in Rabun County.
