What’s Happening in Georgia State Parks

Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites “Take Flight” in 2023

This year’s programming theme is all about birds, bats and pollinators. Rangers invite you to join evening bat walks, backyard bird counts, pollinator habitat restoration projects, butterfly hikes and more “Take Flight” programs. You’ll learn the importance of pollination for our food, migration patterns, how to identify birds and much more. Regular programs like Junior Ranger camps, archery classes, and guided kayak tours are also scheduled throughout the year. Check the Events tab on GaStateParks.org.

Celebrating Asset Management Awareness Month

Commissioner Rebecca Sullivan presents DOAS Surplus Property Division a proclamation issued by Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp recognizing March as Asset Management Awareness Month. The proclamation reaffirms the value DOAS Surplus Property Division and asset management professionals provide in helping the state save resources and reduce costs to taxpayers.

Surplus Property facilitates the disposal and redistribution for billions in personal property assets the State of Georgia oversees. As good stewards of the state’s fixed assets, Surplus Property ensures assets are disposed of in an appropriate and transparent manner. Providing guidance to State agencies in its role, Surplus Property stays abreast of policies and regulations to provide agencies up-to-date industry best practices. Through advocating reuse, reducing, and recycling, Surplus Property makes a difference in the community through its leadership in helping organizations maximize the value of their assets.

March is Proclaimed Purchasing Month in Georgia!

Governor Brian P. Kemp proclaimed March as Purchasing Month in Georgia. It is a time set-aside to recognize those in the procurement and materials management professions who play a significant role in driving efficiency and effectiveness in state government agencies, colleges and universities by balancing and negotiating time, sourcing and the pricing of goods and services.

The Department of Administrative Services Commissioner Rebecca N. Sullivan presented the signed proclamation to the DOAS State Purchasing Division leadership and management team to share with procurement professionals in appreciation for the great work that they do for the State of Georgia.
